The School was originally founded in 627A.D. by Paulinus, the first Archbishop of York, for the education of choristers. The main school buildings (pictured here) date from 1832. In addition, the school now occupies a row of inter-connected town houses in Minster Yard and the Lower School occupies the Georgian 'Old Residence'.
The School stands in its own grounds on Deangate. Its central position means that it enjoys all the benefits of historic York's city centre whilst enjoying the relative tranquillity of the Minster precinct. Since 1987, the school has been a co-educational preparatory school with its own pre-prep.department. There are currently 190 children on the school roll, aged between 3 and 13 years.
